another post with more detail soon but Christmas and the holidays were very blessed in the Motts in Jamestown house. Cameron & Caroline both "got what they always wanted". I have a great video that hopefully I can get posted here. Pictures are easy--here are a few recent ones. Cameron is still doing great with no seizures since the surgery--praise God!! Hello Cameron, Shelly and the whole Mott Family,
I am writing because I, much like Cameron, had a grand mal seizure condition that resulted in a rather invasive brain surgery. I had a left medial temporal lobectomy and left amygdala hippocampectomy. This took place when I was 13 years old.
According to popular science at the time, I was indefinitely doomed to disability, depression and social incompetence. Not completely without merit, mild to severe impairments aged along side of me until my 29th birthday. My capacity to process language was densely limited and even constructing a sentence was often like staring back into the eyes of my maker.
I discovered Dr. Michael Merzenich via a book called "The Brain That Changes Itself". He is an amazing doctor who among other things, advanced cochlear implants to common medical practice. He has received numerous large scale federal grants, spear heading scientific initiatives with the objective of redefining and stretching the very definition of brain plasticity.
The reason I am writing is that I am hoping you will accept a gift that I have for Cameron. It is a one year subscription to a website called Brain HQ. The result of Dr. Merzenich's research, these brain games are much more advanced then the branded Lumosity.com games. They have stood the test of official scientific peer review, to the extent that they can be searched on Pubmed.gov.
I hope you will consider it. It has helped me and I would be forever grateful, simply for the opportunity to contribute to Cameron's reintroduction into the world of normalcy.
